Rubus odoratus is highly ornamental, with its rose-like, fragrant, 2" (5 cm) wide, deep pink flowers. It is a deciduous, coarse, suckering shrub with cane-like hairy stems, and virtually no prickles. It typically grows 3 ft - 5 ft (0.9 m – 1.5 m) tall and spreads 6 ft -12 ft (2 m – 3.65 m) wide. It has palmate, medium green leaves. Flowers appear over the whole summer; and give way to 3/4" (1.9 cm) diameter, cup-shaped red fruits. Without enough water fruit can tend to be dry. Thimbleberry attracts birds and butterflies. Tolerant of black Walnut. Attractive to bees, butterflies, and birds.
