Holmstrup Cedar Hedge (Thuja occidentalis 'Holmstrup') is an upright cedar valued for its narrow, conical to wide-columnar form, and fine, dense forest green foliage. The scale-like sprays of foliage emerge light green, darken, and remain deep green throughout the winter. Recipient of the Award of Garden Merit, Royal Horticultural Society, it is Ideal for small gardens, or areas where a medium sized specimen is perfect. Great for shrub borders, hedges, screens and containers. This Columnar Cedar tree is hardy, easy to grow, and well suited to cold climates. Grows to 10 ft tall, and 4 ft wide, although it grows no more than a foot per year. Holmstrup White Cedar will tolerate some shade, but the foliage will lose its density if it doesn’t get enough sun. Likes moist, well-drained soils. Holmstrup Eastern White Cedar thrives in humid weather, and is damaged by drying winds (protect from drying winds, especially when young.) Tolerates clay soil, Black Walnut, and air pollution.
